General Goal
The Writing Program will challenge the students to write with clarity and creativity. The
students will develop their academic writing abilities and prepare for the district
writing assessment.Objective
To enrich the students' writing abilities by developing their language use skills. This
will enable the students to express their ideas more clearly.
Students will write complete sentences,
creative super sentences, paragraphs, essays, short stories, short autobiographies,
biographies, and poems. In addition, the students will continuously study grammar and
write daily journal entries. All writing projects will follow the five steps of the
writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and rewriting for final
presentation and publication.
Instruction will be based on Bloom's Taxonomy
of Skills:
Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation.
1. Knowledge
-Recognize basic grammatical structures and rules.
2. Comprehension
- Construct a super sentence.
- Formulate a cohesive paragraph.
- Write a comparison/contrast essay.
3. Application
- Demonstrate proper grammar use.
- Complete grammar and editing exercises.
- Apply learned grammar skills to student's own writing.
4. Analysis
- Discuss the effectiveness of different styles of writing.
- Outline essays.
5. Synthesis
- Write poems, dialogues, and short stories.
- Create a poetry folder containing the students' original work.
- Construct an autobiography and biography.
6. Evaluation
- Peer edit and critique other students' work
- Express opinions about specific topics discussed in class
