Advanced Writing Program
|
Objective :
Through the study of prominent literature, the students will
continue to develop their language and reading skills.
The Advanced Writing Program will accept
students in 6th and up. The
students will read short stories and poetry. All activities will encourage the
students to be engaged with the materials as they read. For instance, the students
will maintain a reader response journal where they will select important passages from the
reading and write a personal response. They will learn new vocabulary and respond to
the reading through interpretation and summary writing. In the final projects,
students will be required to discuss theme, symbolism, and central characters.

Keys To...
Algebra
The Keys to Success Algebra class will accept students in grades
6 and up. The class will cover a broad range of topics in Algebra including
integers, equations, polynomials, rational numbers, and quadratic equations. Books 1
~ 4 introduce algebra using only integers. Books 5-7 introduce rational numbers and
expressions. Books 8-10 extend coverage to the real number system. The class
will be self-paced and tests will be administered after each section. The instructor
will offer any supplemental work on an individual basis. |
PSAT Objective:
Expose junior high students to the SAT exam that must be taken for complete
College and University admission.
The Junior Pre-SAT Class will accept students in grades 9 and up. More than half of the
verbal PSAT is a vocabulary test. For this
reason, this class will focus on the verbal components and vocabulary building.
Students will:
- learn
SAT vocabulary, including the 291 most frequently used words on the SAT
- take
a weekly vocabulary test
- complete
sample SAT analogies and sentence completion questions
- study
the Latin and Greek roots, prefixes, and suffixes
- learn
basic test taking strategies
